As we all know sustainability is the ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is a concept that encompasses environmental, social, and economic dimensions, and requires a balance between them. Sustainability is also a goal that we aspire to achieve through our actions and decisions.
As a university, IZTECH has a responsibility and an opportunity to contribute to sustainability through our teaching, research, outreach, and campus operations. We believe that universities play a vital role in advancing sustainability locally and globally, by educating future leaders, generating new knowledge, and fostering innovation.
That is why we established the Sustainable Campus Coordination in 2014, with the aim of promoting and facilitating the integration of sustainability into all aspects of our university’s activities.
Our center’s main objectives are:
• To raise awareness and understanding of sustainability among our university community and beyond.
• To support and coordinate initiatives that align with sustainability across our university’s departments, faculties, institutes, centers, and units.
• To monitor and report on our university’s progress towards sustainability using relevant indicators and benchmarks.
• To foster collaboration and partnership with other universities, organizations, institutions, and stakeholders that are working towards sustainability.
• To showcase and celebrate our university’s achievements and best practices related to sustainability.

One of the ways we measure our performance in sustainability is by participating in the Green Metric Rating System, which ranks universities based on their green campus and environmental sustainability efforts. We are proud to say that our university has been consistently ranked among the top universities in the world by this system since 2021. This reflects our dedication to improving our setting and infrastructure, reducing our energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, managing our waste responsibly, conserving our water resources, promoting green transportation modes, and enhancing our education and research on sustainability issues.
