T.R. Presidential launched under the of Turkey in general “Zero Waste Project” at İYTE “Zero Waste Project Training Workshop” was held.

Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Starting with the opening speeches of Alper Baba, the “Zero Waste Project Training Workshop” continued with the presentations of Environmental Engineers Leman Erol and Bahadır Oğuz from İzmir Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. After the presentations in which the general operation and aims of the Zero Waste Project were explained, Hatice Eser Ökten, PhD from IZTECH Environmental Engineering Department, gave information about the ongoing process at the Institute.

Speaking at the program, Rector Baran stated that he designed IYTE as a Pilot Campus with the principle of “Clean Campus, Clean Environment” and that IYTE will support every level of the “Zero Waste Project”. Stating that the Zero Waste Project is a necessity, Rector Baran said: “Universities are primarily obliged to find solutions to the problems of their region and to play a role in its development. In İYTE, where public benefit projects are carried out, studies are carried out in the fields of renewable energy, social and environmental awareness. For example, Prof. Dr. Aysun Sofuoğlu and Prof. Dr. Within the scope of the project carried out by Funda Tıhmınlıoğlu and supported within the scope of the European Union Horizon 2020 Research Program, a composite material that can be used as raw material from wood and plastic waste was developed. Thanks to the work of our teachers, waste materials have been brought into the economy. Therefore, to be the leading force in the process of Turkey is a country that exports its slogan acquiring information İYTE, “Zero Waste Project” is an example of a model that could spread to the region and nationwide for his work.
